Why Denmark Needs the Gospel
- About 3.5% of the Danish population of 5.4 million are Evangelical Christians.
There is complete religious freedom in Denmark, although the Lutheran Church is recognised as the state church, and there is a state-levied tax on its behalf. 85% of the population identity as Christian, with most of these belonging to the Lutheran Church. However, this is at odds with the 50% of the population reported to be agnostic or
atheist. There has been a growth in spirituality in recent years, but not towards
Christian faith. New churches must continue to be planted during this season of
gradual increasing spiritual openness.
