Why Norway Needs the Gospel
- The population of Norway is 5.1 million people, and 8.4% are Evangelical.
- Oslo (the capital of Norway) and surrounding areas have a lower number of Evangelical Christians, although over half the population live in these areas.
In Norway, there is still a state church - the Church of Norway (Lutheran). However
freedom for other religions is guaranteed. Many of the leaders of the church are
theologically and evangelically sound. Yet, of the 90% of the population who are church members, only about 4% attend church every Sunday. Despite Norway’s deep spiritual heritage, churches are now struggling to retain members. Church planting and new ministries are a great need.
